In 1932, William Brooks, joined by his brother F. M. "Mike" Brooks, founded The
William Brooks Shoe Company (known today as Rocky Brands) in Nelsonville,
Ohio. In 1937, Mike's 17-year-old son and future CEO, John W. Brooks, joined
our company. John, like so many others of his era, answered the call of duty and
served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II. It was during that period
that Rocky Boots would forever cement our footprint within the armed forces.
During the 1940s and 1950s we supplied more than one million pairs of shoes and boots for military conflicts such as WWII and the Korean War. Quality boots were in such high demand during WWII that John reached out to his father to get a pair. Mike sent several pairs to John but they never seemed to reach their destination. After a few failed attempts, Mike used some unconventional thinking and sent John only the right boot. Then a week later he sent him the left boot and John finally got his full pair of boots.
Thus began Rocky's legacy providing the military with superior footwear for over 70 years. Today, Rocky provides the military with the best and most popular combat and training boots. We employ veterans, reserve and guard members in addition to supporting the military community through various organizations.
